Promoters of Sexual Education and Advocacy at the State Level (PESANE)
PESANE was founded in 1992 with the goal of providing essential, age appropriate sexual and reproductive health information to the teachers and students in the state of Guanajuato through interactive courses and workshops. As peers, they are successful in addressing topics directly with the students that are embarrassing and/or taboo. Like many of CASA’s core programs, young people are trained as health specialists, and make lasting impacts in the communities they visit.
Each summer, PESANE provides an extensive three-week training for young leaders from diverse municipalities. They receive the full course on themes like sexuality, family planning, self-esteem, depression, drug addiction and prevention of domestic violence. They also get exposure to CASA’s interactive teaching models -- the theater and radio programs -- and develop strategies to continue the work in their home communities.
Goal in 2010
During the summer course train 20 leaders from rural communities of different states in Mexico to replicate CASA's education model and achieve recognition from the state and municipal government, as it is a valuable resource for the population and in this way strategic alliances could be achieved to work together; this would make the work more efficient and it would be easier way to get to more people involved.
